Master’s Candidate in Boreal Ecosystems and Agricultural Sciences

A passionate and driven individual, she is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, focusing on the intricate relationship between boreal ecosystems and agricultural practices. With a bachelor’s degree in agriculture (specialising in soil science), she has developed a foundation in soil fertility management (undergraduate research) under the title ‘’Effect of Growing Lemongrass and Gliricidia on Soil Properties’’ in Sri Lanka.

She has demonstrated a keen interest in understanding the delicate balance between climate change and sustainable agricultural practices within the ecosystem (soil fertility). Her participation in the North Biosoil Project in Placentia is about nutrient efficiency and budget.

Her research interests include the carbon budget in land application and composting, with the goal of providing important insights into the management of organic waste sustainably, the use of boreal habitats for mitigating climate change, and the improvement of soil health and quality to support agricultural practices.

Research interests:

  • Climate change, agriculture, soil fertility, and environmental sustainability in the northern Boreal region.
  • Management of organic waste and evaluation for greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration

Education:

  • BSc in Agriculture (Soil Science), University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka
  • MSc candidate in BEAS, Memorial University of Newfoundland
