Trained as an ecosystem management specialist, Ethan is enrolled in the Master of Boreal Ecosystems and Agricultural Sciences at Memorial University, working with Dr. Adrian Unc. His research focuses on the impact of land use and land-use change in the boreal ecosystem on soil microbial diversity and ecology, carried out on three farms with different land-use histories in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador.

He holds a BSc in Environment and Natural Resources (Wildlife Conservation) from the University of New Brunswick. Ethan has worked with the Canadian Rivers Institute, as an environmental scientist with a consulting firm, and as a naturalist and tour guide in Southwestern Nova Scotia.
